A Greener Future for Royal Greenwich Beckons As Public Opinion Expected At September Meetings

by Our RBG Correspondent In Woolwich

Residents can voice their opinions about environmental issues at four public meetings to be held across the Royal Borough in September. The Council is running a series of consultation events on its Greener Greenwich Strategy and Air Quality Action Plan which were both launched last month.

The meetings will take place at venues in Thamesmead, Woolwich, Eltham and Greenwich between 5 and 22 September.

The Greener Greenwich Strategy outlines the action the Council is taking to safeguard communities and the environment by reducing the impact of air pollution and climate change in Royal Greenwich.

The Council also wants to help residents, businesses and local organisations make their own positive contributions to implementing a more sustainable future.

Local people are being urged to come along to the meetings and have their say on the range of proposals contained in the Strategy. These include using alternative low carbon energy supplies, making homes more energy efficient, modifying travel, improving waste systems, enhancing the natural environment and securing high environmental standards for new developments.

The Council is also seeking views on its Air Quality Action Plan which outlines proposed measures to monitor and improve air quality in the Royal Borough.

Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Sustainability, Councillor Danny Thorpe (top right) said: “The Council is committed to meeting the challenges of reducing emissions and combatting the causes of climate change”.

“By pushing forward with our Greener Greenwich Strategy and Air Quality Action Plan, we will do everything within our power to make a difference while delivering the best possible deal for taxpayers.”

“Working with and for residents and businesses is central to this success, which is why we are asking local people to come along to next month’s meetings and have their say on our proposals.”

Details of the four events are as follows:

A) 5 September 6.30 to 7.30pm in Thamesmead (Broadwater Village Hall, 1c Goosander Way, West Thamesmead, SE28 0ER)

B) 7 September 7.30 to 8.30pm in Woolwich (The Woolwich Centre, 35 Wellington St, London SE18 6HQ)

C) 12 September 11.30am to 12.30pm in Eltham (The Eltham Centre, 2 Archery Rd, London SE9)

D) 22 September 7.30pm to 8.30pm in Greenwich (The Greenwich Centre, 12, Lambarde Square, London SE10 9HB).

There is no need to register to attend an event – everyone can just arrive on time and have a say.
