Greenwich Centre Library has finished an impressive second place in the Local Culture category for the ‘Time Out Love London Awards.’
The award-winning Greenwich Centre is run by Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL). Residents using the library facilities have access to free Wifi, thousands of books and desktop computers. The Centre also houses a leisure centre with a pool and gym facilities, and an NHS health centre which offers a range of health services to local people.
The Time Out Love London Awards is an annual competition in which residents can vote for their favourite venues and attractions in the following categories: Restaurant, bars/pubs, cafes and shops and local culture – in which the Greenwich Centre Library was listed second behind Greenwich Park.
More locally, the Eltham Centre also collected a prestigious prize for ‘outstanding contribution to the Eltham community’ in the recent Eltham Arts Awards. This award was in recognition of the years of support given to Eltham Arts and Eltham residents to encourage a love of reading from an early age and support Eltham’s status as a cultural hub in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
The Eltham Centre Library offers computer access for the community, along with a wide range of books, videos and music for adults and children. It also supports cultural events and activities in Eltham throughout the year including ElthamRead and the Winter Festival delivered by Eltham Arts.
Royal Greenwich Cabinet Member for Culture, Creative Industries and Community Well-Being, Councillor Denise Scott-McDonald jointly presented the Eltham Arts Award with Clive Efford MP on Sunday 20 October.
Reflecting on the success of both awards, Councillor Denise Scott McDonald said: “What a successful week for libraries in the Royal Borough of Greenwich! The Greenwich Centre is one of the newest Royal Borough hubs but it has already won such a great award befitting of the quality of services it delivers.
“I was also delighted to present the Outstanding Contribution awards to Eltham Library, where members of staff have worked so hard to provide not just a great library service but also a great community service too.”
Diana Edmonds, Head of Libraries for GLL, commented: “GLL has enjoyed a long term partnership with the Royal Borough of Greenwich which goes from strength to strength. We have worked with the Royal Borough to develop innovative library services – and we are delighted that these libraries attract more visitors, year on year."
"Could I also take this opportunity to remind residents that all libraries now offer the Greenwich One Card which combines your library card, leisure centre card and local business discounts card all in one.”
