Tesco's `Free Fruit For Kids' Initiative Proves A Hit With Shoppers

by Benson Agoha In Lagos / Nigeria

A new initiative by Britain's High Street giant Tesco has reportedly proved a hit with parents and children alike.

Tesco adopted a suggestion by one staff to substitute fruits for sweets given to children accompanying adults during shopping.

Launched two years ago, the programme has already seen Tesco give away over 50 million pieces of free fruit to children.

A successful test-run in Tesco's Brigg Superstore, Lincolnshire has seen the high street grocer roll out the scheme in over 800 stores across the UK, Tesco said in a new Press Release on Thursday.

Tesco said its research had shown a third of parents saying their children have eaten more fruit thanks to the scheme. The Supermarket chain said three quarters of parents confirm that the initiative has made their shopping trip easier.
