COVID-19 - Academic Activities Halts In Lagos As Government Orders Schools Closure by Benson Agoha In Lagos

Schools in Lagos State have been ordered to close from Monday 23rd March, 2020, halting academic activities and disrupting planned second term examinations which have just begun in many schools.

The sudden directive is a fall-out of the current deadly corona virus as many African Nations have finally begun to seriously acknowledge the current pandemic crippling nations across the world.

Media reports that an official statement had been endorsed by Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folashade Adefisayo, who said schools closure became expedient in order to prevent teachers and their pupils from contracting the deadly disease in the state,

Lagos state has admitted that six confirmed cases have been recorded and victims  quartered.

Today order comes as disruption to activities as many schools began their second term examinations in the state today. Others have plans for their Inter-House Sports in the coming days.

Earlier, The Guardian reported a total figure of coronavirus patients in Nigeria  rose to 12 after four new cases were confirmed in Lagos State on Thursday.
COVID-19 have been identified in Edo, Lagos, Ogun, FCT and Kano according to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
