Central Bank of Nigeria Announces Targeted Credit Facility For Those Affected By COVID-19 by Benson Agoha In Lagos


The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced a stimulus package to support households and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a release by a company call NIRSAL Micro-Finance Bank.

Under the scheme, the CBN will disburse loans ranging from N1 - to N3, to targeted applicants from three possible classifications.

These groups are:

1) Households with verifiable evidence of livelihood but who have been adversely impacted by COVID-19.  They can apply under Mini Micro scheme for between N1 - N500,000.00.

2) MSMEs Existing enterprises with verifiable evidence of business activities adversely affected as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. They can apply under Micro scheme for between N500,000.00 - N1.5m.

3) Corporate Enterprises with bankable plans to take advantage of opportunities arising from the COVID-19 pandemic can apply under the Micro Plus scheme for between N1.5M - 3M.

According to new information on the website of the NIRSAL Microfinance Limited, three "simple steps" are required to access the facility. These are:

STEP 1: Submit An Application. Applications can be submitted directly to NIRSAL Microfinance Bank (NMFB) with clear evidence of the opportunity or adverse impact as a result of COVID-19 pandemic. You can begin on your phone, your tablet or your laptop.

STEP 2: Approval Stage. NIRSAL Microfinance Bank reviews applications and forward them to the CBN for final approval.

STEP 3: Disbursement Stage sees the CBN reviewing the applications and giving final approval for disbursement to NIRSAL Microfinance Bank.
