COVID-19 - Confusion Among Nigerians Over The Actual Nature Of The Coronavirus

There is growing confusion among Nigerians over the actual nature of the coronovirus.  Many Nigerians now believe that the feared disease is nothing more than malaria.  Some say that it is typhoid fever.

Last week, a man who had never aloud anyone into his home for the full length of the lock-down period, emerged heaving a sigh of relief and announcing that after carefully monitoring unfolding events, he now believed that people were only suffering from typhoid fever.

The latest announcement by the Chairman of Daar Communications, Raymond Dopkesi Jnr. that he might have only been suffering from Malaria appear to support the notion that coronavirus is nothing but malaria fever.

The question is, what is this new strain of malaria that is now wiping out thousands of people across the globe.

According to a report on the Daily Post, Dopkesi Jnr said that since the Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC) declared him COVID-19 positive, he never saw his test result, and wondered why the NCDC treated him with malaria drugs.  He has now been declared negative.

According to the report, the Chairman of Daar Communications said: “Whilst I can attest to my improvement in physical health and well-being, I regret to say that since my initial test to date, I have never seen any documentary evidence of any test result." adding “I take it in trust and good faith that the NCDC pronounced me COVID-19 positive and that they have now also pronounced me COVID-19 negative. I will appreciate it if the documentary records of the various tests on me and members of my family are made available for our medical records."
“Unless a spotlight is beamed on our testing facilities, capacity and documentation, there is an immediate risk that patients will lose confidence in the statements of public healthcare providers.”

Dokpesi has now been discharged from Isolation Centre, in Abuja and says COVID-19 patients in Nigeria may just be Malaria victims.

Nevertheless, Malaria is not known to be contagious. Nor is typhoid fever. So if the coronavirus has attributes of malaria and typhoid fever "plus something else" why is it difficult for them to believe that there is something like covid-19.

According to google, "COVID-19 affects different people in different ways. Most infected people will develop mild to moderate illness and recover without hospitalization.

Most common symptoms:
fever
dry cough
tiredness
Less common symptoms:
aches and pains
sore throat
diarrhoea
conjunctivitis
headache
loss of taste or smell
a rash on skin, or discolouration of fingers or toes
Serious symptoms:
difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
chest pain or pressure
loss of speech or movement
Seek immediate medical attention if you have serious symptoms. Always call before visiting your doctor or health facility.
People with mild symptoms who are otherwise healthy should manage their symptoms at home.
On average it takes 5–6 days from when someone is infected with the virus for symptoms to show, however it can take up to 14 days."

Coronavirus can be tested with a handheld device that shows results within a few seconds.
