School Resumption Across Nigeria In Doubt As NLC Plans Strike Over Fuel Price Increase

President Buhari's Personal Assistant on New Media yesterday confirmed a report that schools have been given the approval to begin plans for an imminent reopening, coming after the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 made their announcement.

States were asked to begin risk assessment preparatory to the reopening of schools to ensure that their readiness is level.

At the same time, the fuel price in Nigeria was increased to N160.00/Ltr, sending shock waves that have already triggered an immediate increase in prices and prompting the Nigerian Labour Congress to begin consultations for a potentially negative response to the increase.

According to a Nigerian Guardian reported, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) are consulting civil society allies and "relevant organs of Labour towards embarking on strike over hike in the price of petrol".

Ayuba Wabba, the president of the NLC confirmed that there are ongoing deliberations over the planned industrial action.

Will school resumption happen? Parents and children await.
