* HAPPY LHOCHHAR!
The Gurung Annual Lhochhar(New Year) was held on Friday 4th of January, 2013, at the Plumstead multipurpose hall, just across the RidgeWay on the right side of Nathanway, in Thamesmead. It was hosted by the Tamu Dhee Branch, Plumstead, London.
The event was covered live by the Nepali TV via youtube and attrached well over 600 attendees.
There was buffet on offer and attendee wore traditional attires.
It featured live performances including singing, dance and drama. And then, the floor became a free-for-all. It was a remarkable day for a happy people.
Although generally attired in mufty, majority of the attendees were either from the Gurkha Regiment or ex-soldiers. I was told that the Gurungs are many in the Gurkha Regiment.
I became a lover of Nepalese food from the day I printed leaflets for a Gurkha Restaurant and was given a sample of MOMO which, by the way, can either be boiled or fried.
Security was also tight with two Doormen and several vigilant plain clothed serving and ex-soldiers.
And when yours truly decided it was time to go home, it was not long before an observer trailed me till he was certain I crosed the ridgeway back to Nathanway.
Someone once said that Soldiers would be soldiers! I certainly agree.
