But the London Marathon is not just about a race to the finished line. It usually provides a beautiful colourful spectacle.
Charities and organisations will be taking advantage of the event to raise funds or promote their brands.
And disruptions usually associated with it include road closures and diversion along the 26.2-mile race routes.

The Royal Borough of Greenwich will be affected. Some roads in Royal Greenwich will be closed and there will be crossing points.
Travellers are therefore advised to use an alternative route if possible, although normal Sunday service will be restored later and will operate from 4.30pm.
