Part of The Town Centre was cut off for several hours on Sunday afternoon following another horrific knife attack.
A teenager of about 18 years was attacked in front of the big building housing Tesco Extra. The attacker reportedly ran away.
No one could give Woolwich a clear account of what went on. A trader said she heard noises in what might have been the aftermath of the stabbing.
Another boy said he came out from the nearby Woolwich Libra to see a body lying on the ground. He does not know the boy, he said. We asked him if the body was moving at the time he came out and he said no.
Police and three Ambulance vehicles scrambled to the scene. An air ambulance helicopter also arrived to offer help but left after the victim was taken away in one of the ambulance vehicles.
Another bystander told us things happened very quickly and there was no prolonged argument before the attack.
He said "One minuted the two were standing together outside Subway Restaurant in front of Tesco Building. There was a brief exchange of words and the other brought out the knif and stabbed him. The boy fell down."
We asked if he knew where the boy stabbed him and he said he was not close enough to see. But the scene was littered with personal effects, including bags, clothes and winter jacket.
Vehicular and human traffic through Woolwich New Road was diverted, and as a forensic expert painstakingly worked through the attack scene, a woman and a man arrived with additional information about the attacker to the Police.
Initial rumours that some boys were involved in a 'free-for-all' could not be proved as the woman was describing a lone attacker who quickly ran away from the scene.
And although Police said they got the identity of the victim, they would not give it out just yet.

And thanks very much to Jakie and Maggie for the photos.
