by Benson Agoha | Expose on Necker Island
This post was inspired by Sir Richard Branson's post on planned turtle rescue at his Necker Island base where he has dedicated a large swathe of land for various species of animals.
He explains how some of the animals are brought from remote parts of the world, where they are threatened with extinction, to Necker to preservation programs.
At Necker, the animals are simply numerous and georeous. There are the giant turtle, the red-legged turtle, red and white haired lemurs, flamengoes,
Sir Richard Branson said he has been extremely lucky and would not swap any moment of his life with anyone else. But to do so, he has reportedly taken risks that others won't.
He almost always manages to appear to be enjoying his life and Necker Island is home to the rich, famous and powerful.
Celebrities shell out their cash to visit the Island - but even to them, it does not always come easy because they are filtered, checked and the source of their wealth determined.
How did he choose the name virgin for his business? His friends suggested it because they were all aparently virgins. Sir Richard laughs and explains "I am a virgin in business and might as well be a virgin in other areas, so why not `virgin'?"
The name has stuck and has been successful. And Necker Island is in the British Virgin Islands. Together, they are working to save endengered animals.
"We have more species on Necker than almost any other island on earth. There are more than 140 species on our 72 acre island - not including the visiting sea turtles and awe-inspiring sealife that visit Necker. Come and meet them in this video," said Sir Richard Branson.
Below, watch the video: Tails From Necker Island. It is not just a new video, but it does showcase the animals of Necker Island.
But if what is doing for the animals at Necker is interesting, perhaps even more so is the history of how he encountered the place.
The Virgin founder said he was pretending he wanted to buy an island to impress a girl, but then, he ended up buying one. The very same island that was shown to him and, he got married there.
