The admissions process for any parent or carer whose child is starting primary or secondary school in Royal Greenwich next year (September 2017) is now open.
Secondary school applications close at the end of October (2016) and primary school applications close in January (2017).
Both primary and secondary schools in the borough offer a range of excellent options. Nearly all Royal Greenwich primary schools (97%) are rated as ‘outstanding’ or ‘good’ by Ofsted – well above the national performance. Results in reading, writing and mathematics in our primary schools are the third highest out of 151 local authorities.
At secondary level our GCSE results are well above the national average and 83 per cent of Royal Greenwich secondary schools are rated ‘outstanding’ or ‘good’ by Ofsted – again above the national average performance. The borough boasts specialist schools in mathematics, languages, computing, engineering, construction, performing arts, humanities, sport and enterprise and technology at secondary level. A number of our secondary schools offer post 16 provision with an extensive range of A level and BTEC subjects.
There is a comprehensive guide to the admissions process on the Royal Borough of Greenwich website and parents and carers can also read the detailed admissions booklets for primary and secondary schools. This gives information about every school and is a thorough guide to how to apply. Parents, carers and pupils are urged to visit schools they are interested in between now and the application deadline date to get a real feel for what they have to offer.
Councillor Miranda Williams (top right), Royal Borough of Greenwich Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said: “We know what an important decision this is for parents, carers and pupils which is why we’ve put together such a comprehensive guide to our schools and the process. Across the board our schools are performing really well at both primary and secondary level so parents and carers can be assured they have a great selection to choose from. I know the process can be a concern for a lot of people but we are here to answer any questions. I do urge people to go and take a look at the schools first hand – they offer a selection of open events where you can get a real feel for how the school operates.”
