THE GREAT HARRY, WOOLWICH, JOINS `DAY OF ACTION' IN TAX REDUCTION CAMPAIGN by Benson Agoha

* The Great Harry - Woolwich.

The Great Harry, Woolwich - a Wetherspoon Freehouse - is to join other Freehouses in the Tax Reduction Campaign on Wednesday, September 25, 2013.

The campaign will use a price reduction tactic of 7.5% across all products ON THAT DAY ONLY to demonstrate what the public stand to benefit, if the government reduces or eliminates VAT on pub food and drinks.

Tim Martin, Chairman of Wetherspoon, has been one of the foremost supporters of the campaign to achieve parity between pub VAT and supermarkets.

The group, formed by Monsieur Jacques Borel in Paris in early 2010, has consistently campaigned for VAT reduction across Europe. The Campaigners argue that pubs should be charged no more VAT than supermarkets and grocery shops.

Through the Taxing Times bulletin, the Jacques Borel VAT CLUB has consistently campaigned for a reduction of VAT from 25% to 5% in order to create jobs and stimulate growth.

* The Pub now has an enlarged drinks and food Menu offering many healthy options.

In a post in their official website, the campaigners declared Wednesday 25th September 2013, a national `day of action', to force the government to reduce the level of VAT in the hospitality sector.

The campaigners say a reduction, (a) will help pubs compete better with supermarket food and drink, (b) pay their staff better, (c) leave more money to invest in their sites, (d) leave them more money to invest in training and generally, (e) pulling in more customers through their doors, due to lower prices.

Little wonder this campaign is popular with pub landlords.

A staff of the Great Harry told Woolwich Online that they believe the day will be busy as customers check out the expected effect of a reduction in prices.

WETHERSPOONS RE-OPENS "THE GREAT HARRY": RIOT VICTIM RESTORED by Benson Agoha
Tuesday July 10, 2012: The most popular and friendly pub in Woolwich, THE GREAT HARRY FREEHOUSE owned by WETHERSPOON, located opposite the General Gordon Square, reopens after nearly a year of closure. This is no doubt, music to the ears of the many loyal fans, who cried and expressed their outrage on a panel, after the charred remains was boarded up for renovation.
Welcome back GREAT HARRY, you've been missed!
The relaunch heralded many changes both inside and outside of the pub. More sitting area, a 2mx2m wall TV/Banner, a 32" TV in the restaurant section.
A new staircase with glass handrailiing, better equipped kichen, revised menu, drinks bar with cup racks, new framed-in gaming consoles, security fitting at the entrace door - all brand new.
No wonder, The Great Harry is Toast of the City again.
Pricewise, it is now even more competitive. Sample, whereas you needed £1.09p for a regular cup of Tea before, it is now only £1 against McDonald's 0.99p.
*Service Bar With Overhead Cup Racks
Following the recognition of Greenwich as a Royal Borough, regeneration has gathered momentum. And with the impending Olympics, as many projects as possible are beeing rushed to completion.
*NEW INTERIOR - BIGGER AND BETTER
Woolwich, which hosts several departments of the Council has continued to receive a major turnaround as huge and small projects are tackled.
*NEW FRAMED-IN GAME CONSOLE
After the riots of August 2011, woolwich was almost `dead' as fear kept residents away from the town centre. All that has changed. Most businesses whose shops were either looted or burntdown have returned to business, such as BlueInc which moved into a bigger store near their burntout site which has not been rebuilt.
*NEW 2MX2M BANNERTV
And new shops arriving for the first time have opened on Powis Street. These include Diechmann (footware) and Broadway Shoes (footware) have just made an entry. Further down, demolition works continue on the site where TK Maxx (Clothing) plans to build a new Store. Opposite that site is the new Travelodge (hospitality) which is almost ready. No wonder consumer confidence is gradually returning.
Around the General Gordon Square however, the most notable returnee, equally as brand new is Wimpy Restaurant, which has returned to business, after many months of closure following the riots
*NEW WIMPY RETAURANT
* ANOTHER VIEW OF THE INTERIOR OF THE GREAT HARRY!
The huge Tesco Development too is moving as planned and is on course to opening in October 2012. And with the Olympics beginning soon, Woolwich is expected to be a boom town again. Keep it real!
