WOOLWICH CROSSRAIL STATION BOX COMPLETED

The Crossrail Station Box for Woolwich Arsenal has been completed 4 months ahead of schedule. Chief Executive of Crossrail, Andrew Wolstenholme, said Berkeley Homes was delighted to announce the completion in December, 2012.

To celebrate the completion, the builder plans to carry out guided public tours of the station box from 15.00-17.00 on Wednesday February 27, followed by a Fun Run within the box to raise money for charity. The project will be handed over to Crossrail Ltd. in earch March.

According to Railway Gazette, it is to be handed over, "ready for the arrival of Herrenknecht tunnel boring machines, Sophia and Mary, which are digging the Plumstead - North Woolwich section of Crossrail."

The box, a big project in its own right is 256 m long, 26 m wide, 18 m deep. It employed 200 personnel during construction, took 400 000 working hours and, best of all, there were no major injuries or incidents.

The Crossrail is a mojor regeneration project designed to open up the South East and attract more tourists and businesses. When Crossrail opens, up to 12 trains per hour during the peak will link south east London and the Royal Docks with Canary Wharf, central London and beyond.
