The man who does not speak english walked into the bank at 4.20pm with another man who does. He requested to open an account and presented staff with the documents.
However, alert Halifax staff said when they exposed the photo ID to security light, it failed. The staff called for the attention of another colleague who declared it fake straight away.
The staff told our man that they took the documents upstairs for additional examination and confirmation before a decision was made to call the police.
Curiously, when we arrived at the bank, the pair were still inside, but the one who spoke english pointed at the other party and he was promptly handcuffed.
He appeared to be working to assist the Police on the issue, including acting as an interpreter between the police and the man.
Nevertheless, as police officers, who were not in uniform at the time, took their time to have a closer look at the documents, the suspect's 'innocent' companion went upstairs to talk to bank managers. He came down later to give his contact number to the police before leaving the bank.
The officers put out a call and another police car arrived at 16.55pm to take the suspect to the station.
Bank staff said they were suprised the `innocent' companion was not arrested too, but they don't know what he told the Police.
Woolwich Online asked the staff whether it was all the documents that were fake or only some and she said "all of them...all of them were fake".
