McDONALDS RESTAURANT GOES BACK TO `WHEN IT ALL BEGAN' - INTRODUCES NEW BUGGER by Sonny Jones

* Back to base for tasty burger lovers.

McDonalds Restaurant is introducing a new bugger called `1955'.

The popular High Street brand said the introduction of the new bugger is a tribute to `where it all began'.

The history of McDonalds Restaurant dates back to 1937 when Patrick McDonald opened a food stand called "The Airdrome", at the airport in Monrovia, California, selling hamburgers and `all-you-can-drink' orange juice.

Later renamed "McDonald's Bar-B-Q" following changes of address, it served twenty five barbecued items on their menu.

In 1948 the restaurant was further restructured to sell a reduced menu that included `hamburgers, cheeseburgers, french fries, shakes, soft drinks, and apple pie.'

In 1955 Ray Kroc, its current owner, officially relaunched the brand and started trading in Chicago, with a new focus at franchise licensing. A year later, the first franchise was granted.

* New product with the benefit of hindsight.

McDonalds Restaurant has a history of remodeling and rebranding, and the latest bugger looks set to get existing and potential customers loyal attention.

Introducing the new bugger, McDonalds say "The 1955 is the perfect way to celebrate our heritage - a classic burger inspired by the '50s and the 'good old days' of America."

It says the new bugger is a timeless combination of `our 100% British beef patty, crispy bacon, caramelised onion and a smoky sauce'.

The restaurant said the "improved recipe `1955', is a taste of where it all began".

We saught out the Manager for an interview. "The new burger is very much like a quarter pounder, but with a lot more meet. It is an orginal burger." he said.

A single take-away of `1955' costs £3.69 but as a meal, it is £5.09.
