Greenwich Leisure Limited, the new Managers for for Woolwich Library have introduced a new browsing equipment for library users.
The electronic table is equipped with library management features that promises a new experience to visitors.
The table can enable users Search The Catalogue for any books. This tells you whether the book is available or not and if so, in which of the libraries it can be found. If the books are not yet in the Woolwich Library, they can be ordered for users.
The table will also be able to tell visitors about local history, allow them the chance to browse the Images Archive, learn about the up-coming Library Events and even play Games.
Users can also look for New Stock, carry out research on a 24 hour bases (assuming the library is open), browse e-Books for articles available for kindles. It is even designed to allow visitors join the Library.
The touch-screen table measures 1850mm x 570mm and stands 800mm tall. A user chair is provided but it can take two chairs in case of friends playing a game.
The screen area is 890mm x 500mm. It is also equipped with a USB pot, an Audio slot and has an internal blue tooth that can help communication with other devices.
However, the equipment is still a work-in-progress and all the features are not yet fully operational because information have not been fully fed in.
GLL took over the management of the Greenwich Libraries from the Greenwich Council. They also manage leisure centres for the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
The library is said to be considering ways to include professional books to its stock.
The new Managers said "Our success means we’re proud to be the first leisure operator in the UK to be awarded the prestigious Social Enterprise Mark and the Big Society Award in 2011."
