China's moon mission has suffered a set back after the moon rover "Yutu" reportedly had a mechanical control abnormality.
Scientists at mission control are organizing an overhaul, Xinhua News Agency reported on their English Edition website.
Xinhua said the abnormality occurred due to "the complicated lunar surface environment," quoting China's State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence (SASTIND).
Though details were not yet availabe Xinhua said "the abnormality emerged before the rover went into its second dormancy at dawn on Saturday as the lunar night fell again, according to the SASTIND."
China's moon rover "Yutu" landed on the Moon on Saturday 14th December 2013 to study the moon surface and do soil analysis.
Woolwich Online reported that the lander was equipped with a ground-penetrating radar that will be able to probe up to 100 meters below the surface of the moon as China carries an independent scientific research.
Beside that Yutu will do soil analysis, survey the moon geological structure, explore for further evidence of water and do more as will be required.
The optical telescope is the first of its type ever to be equipped on a probe. It also has an ultra violet camera that will monitor the earth from the moon and China says `this technology is even better than satelites'.
The ground-penetrating radar is equipped at the belly of the Rover so that as it moves around the surface of the moon, it will explore simultaneously deep into the ground lunar soil.
China says this is not just about going to the moon, but also about using better technology to do better research and hopefully bring better results - something they say, no country else in the world has done before.
