* Louisa Pawsey Muses Over Life In London.
When I was first asked to write for Woolwich Online, I thought they were joking, I mean who wants to listen to me ramble on about life in London?
My first instinct was to say `no'. I didn’t want to set myself up for failure and ridicule, but then I thought, hold on, my thoughts and views are just as valid as anybody else. And my Twitter followers seem to like what I tweet. So I guessed it was worth a try.
Then there was the big consideration of what I should actually write about. Will it be London life, History, or Current Affairs - the possibilities appear endless.
And as I was asked to give my column a title, I also needed to think of something quick, yet at the same, I did not want to pigeon-hole myself into writing one type of blog.
So I thought that I could allow myself to discuss anything. That way, hopefully my blogs will be as entertaining as my tweets.
Well, I suppose I start by introducing myself, so you know who I am and, why I think the way I do.
There is so much going on in the world, as well as in London life that I could write about, things that annoy me, things that make me happy and things that simply bemuse me. But one thing I will never be is conventional.
I suppose I should now tell you about me, shouldn't I? Well I am an adult, single and living in London. I work full time in a well-known Optical Chain, whose name will, for personal reasons be currently left out.
I am a Historian by trade, qualified to BA level and currently perusing my MA. My eyes are also focused towards my PhD.
I am a conservative liberal, which to some is a strange mix, but that’s the way I think.
I am very Euro-sceptic and have strong views on immigration but I am not racist and I wont tolerate that from anybody.
I am a royalist and a proud supporter of our military, but I don’t bow to convention and my views don’t very often tow the party line.
I will be the first to say if Britain has done something wrong and I don’t look back on our history with rose-tinted glasses.
I am however, immensely proud of being British and, while it means I can moan about us and point out our mistakes, it doesnt mean you can, because I will defend my country till the end.
I am very politically incorrect and I will say what I think, my views sometimes piss people off and make people angry, but that just means I am doing something right and I make people think.
I am not religious and I don’t believe in God. But I do believe in life after death, and in ghosts and guardian angels, which to some makes me sound very confused and maybe I am, but that is just how it goes.
I will talk to anybody about anything and I don’t try and change your opinion and all I ask is that you respect me enough to not try and change mine. I will engage in debates and conversations until the point they get silly or personal.
Mental Health problems have plagued me since my early twenties and I have spent time in a mental institution, it is a huge part of who I am but it doesn’t define me, I am open about it and I will talk about it often.
I wont expect you to understand it or embrace it but it is something that I feel strongly about and that will feature a lot in my writings.
My one promise to everybody that reads the Woolwich Online posts is that I will try and be as open and honest as I can. I wont shy away from topics that may be controversial or provocative but, I will be as entertaining and as interesting as I can possibly be.
My posts will be as varied as possible and I will try and give as balanced a view as my historical brain will allow me.
But most of all I hope you all enjoy my writings and, if you want to read more then visit again.
But now the introductions are over. So let the journey begin....
