Last week, I wrote about the goal in the being worth several still in anticipation.
The performance of Wigan Athletic in beating prolific Manchester City 2:1 over the weekend shows that the enemy you know is better than the angel you don't know - and fathomably beatable. And was that not what a member of the coaching team said?
With City now out of the FA Cup contest, their dream of bagging four crowns this season has been effectively ended.
And with Chelsea sitting at the top of the table, with a comfortable 66 pts against City's 57, no one can say for sure that the Manchester Club will level up - even with 3 games outstanding.
* Wigan Players Celebrate their win over Manchester City.
Chelsea has already played 29 games while City played only 26, but can anyone predict with certainty, what the outcome of the three outstanding games will be?
Manchester City was defeated by Wigan last season and lost the FA Cup Crown when they met at the finals. That match ended 1.0 in favour of Wigan after a corner kick was perfectly headed into the net. And that upset, alone was a statement of its own, that adds to the interesting saga of English football.
To achieve the same feet twice on successive seasons appear to be writing a sour history against a club so good they have scored 69 goals in 26 games. Second only to Liverpool FC's 73 in 26 games.
But wearing the premier league crown is a product of many variables, all of which add up to the determinant final points.
And Wigan is not even playing in the premier league this season, yet their achievement at the weekend may be a psychological boost to City's rivals.
But with Arsenal still in contention, Wigans claim to the FA Cup, may yet, and almost certainly will, face another litmus when they face Arsenal in their Semi-final game.
Will they man up till the end? It's the football season!
