Tesco Extra, Woolwich: Shoplifter Arrested For Half Trolley Of Unpaid Groceries

by Benson Agoha

Shoppers at the Tesco Extra store Woolwich were shocked when two ladies attempted to leave the shop without paying for about half a trolley load of groceries.

The incidence happened at about 4.50pm when the pair, apparently related emerged from the the shopping floor with a full trolley of 'a little bit of everything', as the security guard put it.

They paid for the full trolley load and attempted to go with the other half. But alert in-store security stopped them at the point of exit.

Police were called and a long discussion inside took place  before another police Van arrived the store.  Ten minutes later, the two police officers emerged with the pair - a woman believed to be the mother of the younger woman - along with a full the trolley.

They were led out of the store and all items unloaded unto the police van before the van drove off with the accused, heading up the road along Wellington Street, presumably to the Greenwich Station.

A bystander at the time they emerged suppressed a light whistle and said "this is so how not to steal from a store. I bet they would have had all items at half price."

Theft at the store occurs on almost daily basis, according to a Tesco security officer, despite the regularity with which they are caught.  "There is always someone coming to try."
