by Benson Agoha

There is not much difference (only 1.8%) in the rate of employment between Degree Level Graduates and people with Degrees, according to latest data released by the Office of National Statistics.

ONS figures show that 85.3% of people with a University Degree or above are in employment against 83.5% of those with 2 or more A Levels or equivalent.

* Effects of Qualifications on Employment show that people with a degree or higher level qualification had the best chance to find job, according to Cencus figures released by the Office of National Statistics (ONS).

People with no qualifications (those with elementary qualifications or machine operatives have the lowest rate of employment with only 48.5% able to find job.

Rushmoor is the local authority with the highest employment rate of the high educated. ONS figures show the council has 89.6% of its degree level graduate or above in employment.

Blaby Council in the midlands has the highest number of people with 2 or more A Levels or its equivalent in employment.  88.6% of people with more than 2 A Levels from the council are employed.

North Norfolk is the Council with the least level of employent for Degree holders.  ONS say only 78.2% of degree holders are in employment.

Posh Kensington & Chelsea Council have the lowest number of people with 2 A Levels or more in employment, with only 70.7% of them able to get job.

According to the ONS, census analysis looks at how the employment rates of people aged 25 to 64 related to their highest level of qualification, as evidenced from information collected in the 2011 Census "from people usually resident in England and Wales".

The analysis looked at details of qualifications held by respondents, as well as their economic activity the week before the census.

"The analysis reveals that fewer than half (48.5%) of those with no qualifications were in employment compared with around 8 in 10 (80.7%) of those with at least one qualification, and that those with degree level or above qualifications had similar employment rates to those with 2+ A Levels or equivalent," the ONS said adding "However, the most common occupation types, which give an indication of potential earnings, were different between these qualification levels."

The study focused on the active and `more appropriate' population - those aged 25 to 64 - to analyse the effect of different qualifications on labour market participation.
