Jessica Simpson of Mediamass said the rumour gained ground after an 'RIP Neymar' message on Facebook described his him as having died at 11am ET, on Saturday, July 5.

The hoax message then urged the fans to 'show their sympathy by commenting and liking the page.'

The hoaxers wrote Naymar 'will be missed but not forgotten'.

Rumours have suffaced that he may play again soon if Brazil gets through the semi's.

In another development, Neymar, born on February 5, 1992 in Say Paulo, Brazil has been named the "sexiest footballer alive".

Eeh..talk of how a tragic situation can turn to an advantage.

The rumour has since been dismissed by Neymar's representative who said he was alive and well, and urged them to 'stop believing what they read on the internet.'
