”Shrien Dewani is already in the holding cell at the Western Cape High
Court where his trial will start shortly”, adding “There is already a jostle of
journalists, camera crew and public at the court entrance.”
Shrien Dewani in Court in Sourth Africa for murder of his new wife Anni during their honeymoon in 2010. |
With the above statement posted on its facebook page, ‘JUSTICE 4 ANNI’ set
the page on `fire’ even before the trial begins.
Dewani was extradited to South Africa after the High Court ruled on January
31, 2014 that "in the interest of Justice and that of Anni's
family", there should be no further delay in going ahead with the trial.
The Courts order was predicated on certain conditions surrounding the state
of health of Shrien Dewani, who had fought vigorously against extradition to
South Africa.
When British millionaire Shrien Dewani arrived in court to stand trial,
accused of murdering his wife during their honeymoon, many heaved a sigh of
relief, because considering how long he has battled extradition to South
Africa, many had though a trial will never take place.
Shrien 34, Weston-on-Trym, denies plotting to kill new wife Anni during
their honeymoon.
The trial is a closed-door event and only accredited media will be allowed to attend. There is no overflow
courtroom, nor will it be televised. Only Live tweeting and blogging are allowed
and so, we are relying on live tweeting and blogging by JUSTICE4ANNI.
Live reports being filed in from South Africa by JUSTICE4ANNI include the
following:
Shrien Dewani as said to have arrived and “looked sedated on arrival and entered his
cell without any drama.”
Karen Allen of the BBC confirmed arrived saying “#dewanitrial
Im at the High Ct CT for start of trial many thought would never be heard in
SA. Dewani arriving early - media massed outside”.
This trial, a sure front-page event after the recent trial of Oscar
Pistorius who shot and killed his girlfriend on Valentine Day in 2013, will
hopefully shade light into what actually happening on that day in 2010.
