Chelsea Lift The CAPITAL ONE CUP - to begin a new run for Silverware Quests.

by Benson Agoha | In Woolwich

Chelsea FC won the Capital One Cup at Wembley on Sunday, after beating Totenhan Hot Spur 2:0.

This win, the first for Manager, Jose Morinho since his return to the Club, is in line with Chelsea's aspirations. It also marks the beginning of a new run for silverwares  quests. It was always the plan, wasn't it -but has not always happened. Now, maybe be it will after all, success breeds success.

Thanks to the unique nature of the Premier League, Chelsea FC has been a Club that aims high, but has not always achieved its aims.  The club, has been a victim in some games, lossing to smaller not-very-well-favoured clubs, like Barnsley and Wigan.

Maybe it's the course of the FA Cup. But no club that makes it to the League is really negligible. When you don't expect it, they pull a surprise. Thanks hot strike from Captain Terry, also named man-of-the-match, and one from Costa, the game ended 2:0.

For Chelsea players, it was time to celebrate and the made the most of it.  But when Jose Morinho slid in, getting down and dirty even to the surprise of his son and some Chelsea players, you could then really get the feel of winning.

Some former usual faces, who have now departed from the Club, would nevertheless be happy to see their former club return to known terrain. Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard - both are among the faces that, in the past decade were synonymous with chelsea  and silverware. This time, it felt no different, because the new players who looked forward to being identified with winning trophies in their previous clubs, finally got their hands on one.

None of the players held back. From No. 1 Goal-keeper, Petr Cech, to youthful Oscar, and from `Clean boy' Eden Hazard to strong, dependable and prolific defender Branislav Ivanović. Goal-keeper Thibaut Courtois, Cesc Fabregas, Filipe Luis, Azpilicueta, Ramires, second time returnee, Didier Drogba, Nemanja Matic, Williams, and, of course, defender Kurt Zouma whom Jose Morinho also praised as he evaluated their performance during interview.

Anyone who has been following Chelsea would have seen a transformation of a sort - they aren't just interested in winning by scoring, or playing fine football, they are interested in winning by throwing in everything - and EVERYTHING is the key to winning isn't?

The joy of throwing in everything was manifest on their faces yesterday, and it is not even all over yet.  The focus will return to the Premier League, where Chelsea occupies the top spot and still leading Manchester City with 5 points, and game yet unplayed. And there is still the Champions league.

Chelsea has gone this route  before - or at least something similar. Every year, the Club has aimed for the best and yet, somehow the opportunities frittered away, one way or the other, by annoying and frustrating circumstances. This year, it is already different and they don't even have to wait for the end of the season to know that.

No doubt, we can expect their new confidence to be a huge boost and a game-changer for the coming years because, as they say, each trophy feels unique and only leaves you wanting and expecting to win more. They just might still do that. Congratulations Chelsea.
