by Benson Agoha | filed under USA
One of the two Boston Marathon bombers, convicted last month on 30 federal charges, seventeen of which carries the death penalty has been sentenced to death.
The other died as police locked down the city while they tried to flee.  In a bid to make a safe exit, the one drove over his brother, killing him instantly as he made a quick getaway.
According to Fox News, a US Federal jury Friday sentenced Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to death, for the April 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. The jury reached a verdict Friday afternoon in the penalty phase of the trial after 14 hours of deliberations.
Tsarnaev was convicted last month on 30 federal charges. Seventeen of the charges carried a maximum penalty of death.
Three people died and more than 260 were injured when two bombs went off near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.
The defense argued that Tsarnaev was heavily influenced to participate in the attack by his older brother, Tamerlan.
The pair also killed a Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer days later as they tried to escape a massive manhunt.
Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed during a confrontation with police. Dzhokhar was captured a short time later in the backyard of a home in Watertown, Mass., where he was found hiding in a boat.
