New Mayor and Deputy for the Royal Borough of Greenwich – Cabinet posts also confirmed

New RBG Mayor: Cllr Norman Adams

Councillor Norman Adams has been appointed as the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich for the Municipal Year 2015/16, with Councillor Olu Babatola as his Deputy Mayor.

The new Mayor will be formerly presented with his Chains of Office on Tuesday.

The decision to appoint the Mayor and Deputy was taken at the Full Council meeting on Weds 13 May. They will take up office as of 19 May 2015.

The Full Council was also informed of the membership of the Cabinet, as appointed by the Leader of the Council.





New RBG Deputy Mayor:
Cllr Olu Babatola
The post-holders are as follows:

  • Councillor Denise Hyland - Leader of the Council and Chair of Cabinet; also lead member for Strategy & Finance; Resources; Communication and Community Consultation; and Emergency Planning
  • Councillor John Fahy - Deputy Leader and Vice-Chair of Cabinet; also Cabinet member for Children’s Services
  • Councillor David Gardner – Cabinet member for Health & Adult Social Care
  • Councillor Sizwe James – Cabinet member for Business, Employment & Skills (including Digital Enterprise)
  • Councillor Chris Kirby – Cabinet member for Housing and Human Resources
  • Councillor Maureen O’Mara – Cabinet member for Customer Services
  • Councillor Denise Scott-McDonald – Cabinet member for Community Wellbeing and Public Health
  • Councillor Jackie Smith – Cabinet member for Community Safety & Environment
  • Councillor Danny Thorpe – Cabinet member for Regeneration & Transport (including Business Growth & Inward Investment)
  • Councillor Miranda Williams  – Cabinet member for Culture & Creative Industries
The Full Council was also informed of the appointment by Party Groups to the following posts:

  • Council Chief Whip - Councillor Stephen Brain
  • Deputy Chief Whip - Councillor Aidan Smith
  • Leader of the Opposition - Councillor Matt Hartley
  • Deputy Leader of the Opposition - Councillor Mark Elliott
  • Chief Whip of the Opposition - Councillor Geoffrey Brighty
