by Benson Agoha | Technology

Not that Blackberry was a name we ever forgot - even when its fortunes turned downwards simply because, it dragged its feet when smart phones arrived the stage, but instead chose to maintain its qwerty manual keypad.

Before blackberry's sales chart showed a downward arrow, it was the iconic phone of choice for smart and upward bound executives.  Blackberry was synonyms with power and the rich and powerful made it their never-to-be-left-behind handbag.

It was an effective telecom tool.  And it facilitated business in many ways, including combining the email with telephone, enabling executives to keep their finger on the pulse of their offices and business even when they are away from the office.

The entry of blackerry's Leap is beeing seen in business cycles as the most effective statement from the phone-makers that they mean business in recovering the nitch they lost to rival phones like Apple and Samsung.

The BlackBerry Leap is being marketed as the smartphone for 'young power professionals', say Steve Ranger - a technology blogger for ZDNet.

Steve Ranger is of the opinion that this previously undiscovered demographic of junior execs onto which BlackBerry has latched, may actually hold the key to its turnarrount efforts. He may be right.

Over the past several years that Research in Motion, the company behind Blackberry range was looking for an effective way to relaunch the brand, a new type of upward bound professionals have arrived the scene - with the economy improving and new graduates joining the labour market.

The Blackberry phone has come a long way. Being the first phone that introduce a bigger square screen with its QWERTY keypad, the phone has enjoyed sustained patronage and it's Blackberry Bold was very popular among top level and middle level managers.

The Leap comes with bigger screen, touch screen and colour set that does not detract serious professional from concentrating and getting the job done.

Blackberry may just have returned.
