James Homes gets life without parole.

Jurors in Colorado massacre case Saturday rejected the death penalty for James Homes and decided the gunman should be sentenced to life in prison, without parole.

James Homes is accused of killing 12 and injuring 70 during in a 2012 attack at theater, in Colorado.
They deliberated for about six and a half hours, over two days. The sentence will be announced later at 7pm ET.

According to Fox News, a "jury will announce its verdict at 7 p.m. on whether convicted Colorado theater shooter James Holmes will be sentenced to life in prison [ instead ] of the death penalty."

The jury reached a verdict in the `life or death' case of  the accused for his role in the Colorado movie theater shooting that killed 12 and injured 70. The judge will read the verdict at 7 p.m. ET."

Fox News said a decision to sentence the former neuroscience graduate student to die by lethal injection would have to be unanimous. However, they could not achieve a unanimous decision, but decided that life in prison without the possibility of parole is the best sentence because of his mental illness.

"If they can't all agree on a sentence, Holmes would be sentenced to life," Fox News wrote.

Survivors of the attack and victims' family members disagree on which sentence is appropriate. Some believe Holmes' execution would help ease their pain, while others worry about the decades of appeals that typically come with the death penalty.
