Post-16 Students In Royal Greenwich Celebrate

Greenwich schools have raised their game in helping students to achieve record results in BTec exams.

Almost three-quarters of exam entries at BTec (73 per cent) achieved a good grade (A* - B). This was a leap from 51 per cent in 2013, the last year for which comparable figures are available. Every school increased its rate of good passes in this qualification.

‘A’ level pass rates have fallen slightly – although there have been plenty of celebrations by students gaining the grades needed to take up the places they have been offered at university. The overall pass rate in A-levels, at 98 per cent, matches the national figure and the number of A*-B grades at A-level came in at 39 per cent a fall on last year.

Cllr John Fahy, the Royal Borough’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “Across the borough we have seen fantastic successes by individual students who have achieved the results they need to go ahead to university. Both they and their schools should feel very proud."

“I’m delighted at the results achieved in BTec qualification, although the results overall at A level are not as consistently good as we would have hoped. Nevertheless Greenwich schools still offer a great education to our post 16 students, helping equip them to make the very most of their potential."

“We remain ambitious for our students, and we share with our schools a determination to improve still further. We will continue to support – and to challenge - our schools to ensure they bring the very best out of their students.”
