What you need to know about Google's new CEO, Sundar Pichai

Sundar Pichai Takes is new Google CEO
He is young, bespectacled and cool. This is the new CEO that has been placed in charge of Google to allow Larry Page refocus in new select parts of the ever-growing Google empire.

According to a report by the Business Insider, Indian Born Sundar Pichai's appointment will allow Larry Page manage a completely new company called Alphabet. Alphabet is a collection of Google Companies that include Life Sciences. which manufactures glucose-sensing contact lenses, and Calico, which focuses on longevity. And Sergey Brin will serve as Alphabet's President.


The new CEO was the former Chrome and Android head and he joined the group in 2004, as vice president of product management and led the team that worked on Google's Chrome browser and operating system. He worked his way up to be Page's right-hand man, according to the report.

He quickly began to receive more responsibilities, taking on involvement with various Google search products including Firefox, Google Toolbar, Desktop Search, Gadgets, and Google Gears and Gadgets.

Originally from Tamil Nadu, one of India's 29 states, Pichai studied at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, where he received a Bachelor of Technology.

He then received a M.S. from Stanford and obtained an MBA from Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. At Wharton, Pichai was honored as a Siebel Scholar and a Palmer Scholar.

Former Google product manager Chris Beckmann, reportedly spoke highly of Pichai in a recent post saying: "He recruited, mentored, and retained a great team," said Beckmann. "Sundar's team of product managers had a reputation as being among the best of the best, similar to the reputation of the software engineers within Search Quality."
