Blooming Marvellous! Greenwich Wins London In Bloom Awards

by our Staff in Woolwich

GREEN spaces across the royal borough were recognised as some of the very best in the capital at the London in Bloom Award this week (Sep 16).

The annual competition celebrates the efforts of London’s boroughs, communities, businesses and individuals in making the city such a special place to live in, work and visit.

Five local nominations achieved recognition. The Royal Borough of Greenwich achieved silver in the Large City Group B category. Charlton Triangle Homes and Well Hall Pleasaunce were honoured with silver gilts in the ‘Urban Community’, and ‘Small Park of the Year’ categories respectively.

There was also success in the ‘London in Bloom It’s Your Neighbourhood Awards’ category, with Friends of the Tarn recognised as ‘Thriving,’ and Charlton Community Gardens garnished with ‘Outstanding’ status.

The London in Bloom winners will be presented with their gongs by Greenwich Mayor Cllr Norman Adams at Woolwich Town Hall as part of the Greenwich in Bloom annual awards ceremony next month.

Cllr Jackie Smith (top), cabinet member for community safety and environment, said: “Congratulations to our award winners and I am grateful to them for continuing to help keep the ‘Green’ in Royal Greenwich.

“The council always supports local parks and green spaces as part of our continuing commitment to improve the environment for the benefit of local people.”
