In February 2014, the Crimson reported that more Harvard students were asking for financial support, withd 22.7% of applicants requesting for application-fee waiver, 6.3% more than 2013, and 10.3% more than the number of requests in 2010.

Weeks after the announcement, old boy Kenneth C Griffin. a billionaire hedge fund manager donated $150 million to Harvard and directed that at least $125 million of the gift should be used to support financial aid at the College.

Later in September 2014, another old boy Gerald L. Chan donated $350m to Harvards School of Public Health, having previously acquired property within the institution. The school of Public Health was later renamed after him.

The Crimson said Friday that despite the progress ahead of schedule, University President Drew G. Faust said last week that officials have no current plans to raise the campaign’s goal.

However, if reach, the target of $6.5 billion would be a higher education record.
