Tower Hamlets Mayor, John Biggs Thanks Supporters For Helping Him During The Mayoral By-Elections

by Benson Agoha | In Tower Hamlets

The Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Mayor John Biggs held a 'thank you' reception for his helpers Saturday.

The event, held at the St Margaret's House, Bethnal Green, was to "thank members and supporters from Tower Hamlets (and beyond) for all their hard work in the Mayoral and Stepney Green elections on June 11, earlier in the summer"

The summer social event was also a celebration of labour's recent election successes in Tower Hamlets.

It was held 10 days before his first 100 days in office, and 10 days before he marks 27 years in politics in the Tower Hamlets Council. He was also for the former leader of the Council.

The event was an interesting one, with lots and lots of Awards, given to winners from nominated batches. There were also several lucky dips from which winners of a raffle draw were presented with gifts of various kinds, including boxes of chocolate bars and crisps.

The Mayor of Tower Hamlets, who still holds his surgeries every week, said it was time for Labour rapprochement, with the victory of Jeremy Corbyn, whom he said he had also, at some point in the past disagreed with on some issues.

He caused laughter when he said those who were invited but failed to attend the event might have gone to celebrate with Jeremy Corbyn instead.

Guests were treated to a range of food (including Halal) and soft drinks - and some music.
