Chris Harper Mercer, 20, was said to have shot Christians in the head and other faiths got shot on their legs at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. He reportedly shot 9 students before he was killed by Police. 7 others were also injured.

A hand gun and a long gun were among the three guns that were reportedly found at the scene. He was shot dead by law enforcement.

Experts think there must be some religious component to this. But his name gives nothing away. And no one can say whether he was Muslim or christian or any faith at all.

Before the shooting, Mercer reportedly posted a anonymous instruction saying "if you live in the north west, don't go to school today."

His residence in Roseburg, Oregon, a small town of 107,000 is the centre of massive law enforcement build-up as they conduct interviews and try to get into his apartment.

SWAT teams reportedly are moving building-to-building, but Douglas County sheriff is telling Fox News that there no longer is an active threat.

Last night Bodhi, a twitter user, broke the news thus at 9.32pm British time.

The gunman is a fan of guns and anything that borders on the military and the use of force. The photo below was a cut out from his MySpace profile:

President Obama condemned the attack saying "our thoughts and prayers are not enough" for the families whose lives have been changed forever.

He repeated his statement a few months ago that sympathies do nothing to change things.
And said Law enforcement are in Roseburg, Oregon and give them the help they need for as long as they need it.

He said somehow, shooting has become routine just like in Columbine, Charleston and other areas that have witnessed mass shootings in the past.
