Royal Greenwich New Scheme Fix My Street Invites Residents To Report Local Issues

by our RBG Correspondent | Woolwich

Residents now have a new option of reporting street level problems to the council with the launch of a new, mobile friendly website.

Greenwich Fix My Street, is one of a number of ways residents can contact the council about local issues. It allows local people to report a wide range of problems affecting local streets – from fly-tipping and broken paving slabs, to street lighting and potholes – direct from their mobile phones.

Part of a national service, Fix My Street is a fast and efficient way for residents to report road, street and cleaning problems as when they encounter them. The website is designed specifically to support use from mobile devices as well as computers. Once an issue is reported, the relevant department in the council will be notified and will be able to deal with it swiftly, prioritising potential safety issues first and foremost. The system allows residents to keep track of the issues they have reported using an interactive map of the borough.

Already, local people are making good use of Greenwich’s Fix My Street website, with 29 reports logged in a single week and 83 altogether during October.

Councillor Jackie Smith, Royal Borough of Greenwich cabinet member for community safety and environment said: “Our new Fix My Street service is an excellent way for residents to report problems on our streets quickly and efficiently, and to keep track of how we are doing in response to their concerns."

"The website is easy to use and mobile-friendly, so residents can report problems as soon as they see them and upload a picture to illustrate the issue. The council is committed to ensuring that local streets are clean and safe wherever possible and we are always keen to look at new ways of engaging with residents.”
“The royal borough pays a heavy price for the irresponsible actions of those who dump rubbish. Last year, 14,503 fly-tips were removed from local streets and open spaces by the council. This added up to 730 tonnes of waste, which costs roughly £210,000 to collect and dispose of. We appreciate the quick thinking of residents in reporting dumped rubbish and help keep our local community free from unsightly fly-tips.

“The council provides a range of services to help residents dispose of large waste items so there is absolutely no excuse for fly-tipping.”
