Royal Greenwich Residents Show Solidarity With France - Sign Book of Condolence

Residents of the Royal Borough of Greenwich have been showing their sympathies with the citizens of France by signing a Book of Condolence opened at the Woolwich Town Hall.

 

 

Besides local residents, Faith leaders have expressed their shock and outrage at the terrorists, following their attacks on Paris last Friday.
 

The Book of Condolence was opened, after a commitment to stand together against such atrocious acts topped the agenda at the start of the inter-Faith week on Monday, November 16. After the opening, residents queued to add their messages of support to the French people.
 

And, as she promised in an earlier "Message of Solidarity To Paris", Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Cllr Denise Hyland (right), wrote to the Mayor of Paris on the attacks.
 

In her letter, Cllr Hyland told the Mayor of Paris that in Greenwich "..we are, sadly, all too familiar with the experience of having a savage terrorist attack take place in the heart of our community."
 

She said it was clear from several statements emerging from France since the attacks, that the French hold an equally firm resolve to stand against terror.
 

“From the statements issued by you, your President and other leaders in France, it is clear that you hold an equally firm resolve not to allow those values to be destroyed," the Leader said, adding "The feelings of shock at the brutality and scale of these attacks are shared by people across the world.”
 

Residents can still sign the Book of Condolence at the Woolwich Town Hall, Wellington Street, Woolwich, SE18 during weekday opening hours, between 9am - 5:30pm.
