On December 26th, Mitsubishi formerly published the video stating "The MRJ has been successfully cleared the first flight mission by Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation (MITAC)."

But the announcement came after it postponed the delivery of the first jet on Christmas Eve because of "several issues" discovered after the test flight. These several issues have resulted in a delay of up to one year.

Mitsubishi said it now looks to deliver around the second quarter of 2018 rather than 2017 when the orders would have been satisfied.

According to Industry Week "The plane’s system software had to be upgraded and its fuselage strengthened, Mitsubishi said. Last month’s take-off came about half a century after the last Japanese-made commercial plane took to the skies."

Mitsubishi Heavy unveiled the two-engine jet — which is approximately 115 feet long and seats about 80 passengers — in October last year and has received more than 400 orders.

It had previously planned to make the first delivery to Japan’s All Nippon Airways in 2017.

Honda, another Japanese giant auto-maker is also developing a aircraft in the United States.
