It is a story often heard of but rarely experienced. The above photo taken in a hospital ward in Nigeria shows a husband carrying his new born baby, as his wife lies on bed resting. The baby was delivered of her mother after four years.
According to the account Oluwabunmi Ogidan (32) and her husband Bankole of Ogun State, Nigeria welcomed their first child on Wednesday, January 27th, but after carrying the pregnancy for four years.
But if you think the baby would have grown a full set in the womb, it did not seem so. She locked perfectly normal as a new born.
The couple married since August 2011 told The Nation that soon after Oluwabunmi took in, allergies set in, but as they moved from one professional to the next, different accounts began to emanate as the whether the pregnancy was intact or not.
First a pregnancy test confirmed she was expecting, then a midwife told them pregnancy pains were no problem and that the pregnancy was intact.
At a hospital, a doctor said she had miscarried after nothing showed up in the scan. But the woman's stomach continued to grow.So they went for a second scan.
"The gynaecologist said there were three sets of fibroid where the baby ought to be, but that the way my wife looked, she appeared like a woman who was ready for delivery. He said he would act fast and do an x-ray that would reveal more. That was on March 25, 2014."
"We did the x-ray but we were told that though they believed in God, from all medical indications, there was no more pregnancy in the womb. They said the uterus was elongated, blocked with a concentration of urine fibroid and the white fallopian tube was outlined. They concluded that it was fibroid. I asked if she could get pregnant and they said no.”
They sought spiritual solution where a `prophet' confirmed that the child had all along been there; only that scan could not pick it.
So the hospital continued to nurture the baby for antenatal. But here again, they still saw fibroid in the womb. But to the glory of God 27th January this year, our baby finally arrived,” Bankole said.
But conventional medical professional Dr Sam Akinyemi, a consultant on naturopathic gynaecologist said of the situation was indeed "... an abnormal medical record" although reasoned that it could have been "..the result of retardation in hormonal production in the pregnant patient."
However, he said "But nothing is impossible in this world" adding ""In natural medical gynaecology, we have had cases of that nature."
