Payment System Crash Gives Cash Paying Commuters `Free' Travel

by Benson Agoha | In Woolwich

An early payment system crash knocked out the Tube and DLR nework controls and gave early morning commuters a free travel.

Check-In and Check-out barriers were disabled when tap-in and tap-out instructions were momentarily replaced by verbal instructions urging commuters to `just come through' and go.

Travelers who are used to the `tap-in and tap-out" procedures initially got confused after their attempts to tap in reported error beeps from their Oysters Cards and Contact-less Bank Cards.

Some thought their payments at the ticket machines might not have gone through.

We asked some commuters how their journey went and they told of normal feeling save for the attendant not bordering with ticket checks.

With normal work due to resume on Monday and City workers expected to make refreshed recharged return to work, the payment system will hopefully have been fixed.
