Royal Greenwich And Charlton Athletic Community Trust To Launch ‘Quit Your Way, Today!’ Roadshow

by our RBG Correspondent | Woolwich

A nine-week roadshow aimed at offering support to smokers who wish to quit will launch on Tuesday 19 January.

Organised by the Greenwich Stop Smoking Service with Charlton Athletic Community Trust, the ‘Quit Your Way, Today!’ roadshow will tour the borough for nine weeks, calling at high streets, supermarkets and community venues to offer dedicated one-to-one stop smoking support.

There will be lung age tests available, as well as carbon monoxide readings and free, local support from a team of trained stop smoking advisors.

Quitters can also get information about local ‘stop smoking’ drop-in centres, stop smoking medications and e-cigarettes.

Cllr David Gardner (top right), the Royal Borough’s Cabinet Member for Health, Social Care and Public Health, said: “Greenwich’s public health campaign to reduce smoking in the borough has been remarkably successful. Having had one of the worst smoking rates, the borough now has a prevalence well below the national average," adding “We now want to continue to help support the small minority that still smoke to give up."

“You’re four times more likely to quit with support, so our friendly advisors will be on hand to help you choose your best way to stop smoking."

“There are lots of benefits to quitting, including reducing your risk of developing smoking related illnesses, having a bit more cash, protecting those around you from second-hand smoke, improving your breathing and general fitness - and even improving your appearance.”
