Woolwich - Recap of The Female Champagne Thief That Travels 26 Miles To Hit Her Target

By the time she arrived the big Tesco Extra Stores in Woolwich on Wednesday January 20, 2016, she had traveled a minimum of 26 miles from Brent on London's west end.

But for a dedicated thief, this hardly represented any troubles as she perfected an act which was noticed in the run up to Christmas last month.

By the time of her arrest, she had narrowed her journeys to a weekly adventure. Only it was not to last long.

When Tesco called in the Police on the 16th of December, 2015 26 bottles of Moet Chandon Champagne had been stolen from the Woolwich store the previous night.

How it happened was anybody's guess, but early callers at the customer toilets on far end of the mall saw some empty champagne bottles tossed into a corner of the toilet. The thief took her time to celebrate Christmas before returning to `work.'

On Wednesday 13th of January, the police was once again called to a new case. This time, she made away with 13 bottles, prompting the involvement of Forensic experts scan the place for forensic opportunities to help identify and apprehend the suspect.

So when she returned a week later, her luck ran out. When Police were called again at Tesco they arrested her and later announced the "Break out of the bubbly!"

A suspected initial total was put at £1000, but by the time she was charged at 3am on Thursday morning was, final total was £1089, representing, at the pre-Christmas sale price of £9 per bottle, a total of 121 bottles of sparkly bubbly.

Questions such as why she preferred on Moet and have to travel 26 miles for the them have yet to be answered.

One is certain, after celebrating Christmas in style, she seemed determined to make her next Valentine experience bigger than she had on Christmas - only it won't be happening.
