Royal Greenwich Libraries To Mark World Book Day On Thursday March 3rd 2006

There is plenty of fun and dressing up in store for youngsters this week to mark World Book Day on March 3.

Children across the borough will be dressing up as their favourite book character on Thursday and the Royal borough’s libraries are hosting events for families.

Throughout the week all libraries will be giving out World Book Day gift tokens at their under-5s activities and featuring the popular Kipper children's books.

On Thursday, Woolwich Centre library will host Woolwich Onesies for the under-5s at 10am and 11am – these are dance and rhyme sessions when youngsters can enjoy the fun and wear a Onesie.

Councillor Denise Scott-McDonald (top right), Royal Borough of Greenwich Cabinet Member for Culture and Creative Industries, said: “It is great seeing all book lovers getting involved with a worldwide book day event. Our libraries play an important role in supporting family literacy in the borough by encouraging families to read together in a stimulating environment.”

Children’s author and illustrator Rosie Webb will hold family workshops on Friday, March 4, in the Greenwich Centre library at 11am and at the Woolwich centre library at 1.30pm.

This is the 19th year of World Book Day, an international celebration of books and reading. In 2016, more than 14 million £1 book tokens will be given to children in the UK and Ireland, which they can spend on one of ten listed titles or put it towards a book of their own choice.
