"Truly awful scenes coming out of Turkey tonight. Pray for Ankara" was tweeted by Charles B. Anthony from Ankara Turkey as he reported todays powerful explosion that initially claimed a reported 27 people and about 100 people injured. The total deaths later rose to 32.

An "explosive-laden vehicle" blew up near an Ankara bus stop on Sunday, killing at least 27 people and wounding 75 others in the Turkish capital, according to the Associated Press, which cited the Ankara governor's office.

The explosion Ankara's Guven Park in the Kizilay district, a key transport hub and commercial area, rendered several vehicles at the scene reduced to burnt-out wrecks, including at least one bus.

Members of emergency services worked hard at the scene of the explosion as Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu was convening an emergency security meeting.

A Turkish security official told Reuters that a Kurdish militant group likely carried out the attack.

"According to initial findings, it seems that this attack has been carried out either by the PKK or an affiliated organisation," the official said.

The wounded were taken to 10 hospitals in the city, and a dozen of the injured were in very serious condition, according to AFP, citing medical sources.

The blast occurred on the city's main boulevard, Ataturk Bulvari, close to Ankara's main square, Kizilay. It happened adjacent to bus stops near a park.

The aftermath of that explosion in Ankara is shown in the following images which has reportedly caused the last ban on social media in Turkey.

Dogan Asik, 28, said he was on a bus when the explosion occurred.

"We were thrown further back into the bus from the force of the explosion," said Asik, who sustained injuries on his face and arm.
