It's Time To Be a Local Tourist Again, And Discover Your Local Area

by our RBG Correspondent | Woolwich

Be a Local Tourist Day is back and will be held on 13th March 2016 in Eltham Town Centre, and with a host of activities and historical adventures, it’s a good opportunity for residents to find out more about their local area, or just to enjoy a fun day out.

The events being held in Eltham are:

* A guided walk of the Eltham town centre
* Free guided tour at Blackheath Golf Club
* Half price entrance to the historic Eltham palace
* Bob Hope Theatre will play host to an Open House
* Tour of the Tarn
* Open house for visitors at the historic St John’s Church

Eltham Town Centre is known for its bustling and friendly hub of shops which has lots of places to eat and drink. There are also a number of interesting sites to visit including Eltham Palace, where Henry VIII spent much of his childhood, the beautiful landscape garden and Bird Sanctuary of The Tarn, the 16th century splendour of the Tudor Barn, The Eltham Lodge - a Classic mansion built in 1664, and the famous Bob Hope Theatre.

Cllr Denise Scott-McDonald (top right), member for Cultural and Creative Industries and Community Wellbeing, said: “Be a local tourist day offers a chance for residents to visit some of the fantastic attractions which are right here on our doorstop and to enjoy the history and heritage of our borough. There will be a wealth of activities for all the family to get involved in that are either free or offered at reduced rates.”
