Jonathan The Giant Tortoise Takes First Bath Of It's Life - After 184 Years

by Benson Agoha | World News

Dr Joe Hollins gives the giant tortoise its first bath ever.
It occupies only an area of 121.7 km² with a 2008 population estimate of 4,255 residents, but this British territory, nearly 4000 kms east of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is known for being the place Napoleon Bonaparte emigrated to and died, though his tomb there is now-empty.

St Helena is also a volcanic tropical Island in the South Atlantic Ocean and very importantly houses also one famous animal - a 184 year old turtle which recently had its first ever bath.

The Giant Turtle, called Jonathan, could be seen coolly receiving a close-up wash without reaction and according to the St Helena government, the spectacular event occurred on March 19, 2016 when, in the grounds of Plantation House, in St Helena Island "the oldest known living land animal on Earth and creakingly old national treasure at an estimated age of 184 years - was washed for the first time in recorded history by vet Dr Joe Hollins".
