Bombing `Error' Kill Dozens in Syria After Government Air Strikes In Idlib

by Benson Agoha | Middle East

A bombing error has reportedly killed at least 33 people while 47 others were wounded in air strikes targeting a market.  Syria government own war planes were blamed for the incident, according the Middle East Eye.

Activist Hadi Alabdallah said on Twitter that an attack on a market had also taken place in the town of Kafranbel, which is also in the district of Maarrat al-Numan.

Since the start of the country's civil war, anti-government activists in Kafranbel have gained wide-spread attention, posting banners and posters with messages for the world.

"It is not a civil war. It's a genocide. Leave us die, but do not lie," said one of the town's banners in February 2012.

Alabdallah said the market had been attacked by "regime warplanes". The unconfirmed death toll in that attack was seven people.

Video of the aftermath of the attack published on YouTube by the local Baladi News activist group showed scenes of lifeless bodies strewn on the streets, with debris everywhere.

Syrians evacuate a wounded woman from the site after Syrian government jets bombed a bazaar in Maarrat al-Numan, south of Idlib, Syria on 19 April 2016 (AA) (below left)  while on the right a dead body lay on the items for sale.
