by our RBG Correspondent | Woolwich

* Charlton Conservation Area Map
Royal Greenwich is rich in history and architecture, with 20 conservation areas in the borough.

The Council is currently consulting on a range of changes in the Charlton Conservation Area and would like to hear the views of residents and businesses on the proposals, which include:

* Some boundary changes to the conservation area, comprising the inclusion of additional properties around Hornfair Park and Lido, Charlton Church Lane and Landsdowne Road and the exclusion of properties in Canberra Road.

* A review of the planning controls in the conservation area;
* Improving the ‘look and feel’ of shop signage in Charlton Village;
* Proposals for the national listing of the Assembly Rooms and the local listing of 14 groups of buildings in the conservation area;
* Identifying a strategy for the management of green spaces, trees and landscapes;
* Promoting the conservation and repair of older buildings.

You can read and comment on the Charlton Village Conservation Area draft character appraisal and management strategy on the consultations section of our website – go to
