Operation Say-No-To-Knife-Crime Delivers Appreciable Results Despite Fears

A stop and search program in Lewisham has resulted in an interception of a kitchen knife and an arrest, Lewisham Metropolitan Police Service said revealed today.

The Stop Search Scrutiny Group of the Lewisham Police began a stop and search of suspected persons on the street and before long had to tell their colleagues about the positive outcome.

Members of the public were also horrified by what was found but supportive of the measure aimed at removing dangerous weapons from the streets.

As the implementation of the #saynotoknifecrime programme gets underway, Officers later arrested the 'owner' of this blade (above) in Hither Green Lane, Lewisham.

Yesterday, a sword-sized knife was also intercepted by the police elsewhere in London yesterday, even as Nick Ferrari of the London Broadcasting Corporation (LBC) was discussing Knife Crime in London.

Since the stop and search began on Sunday, Lewisham police have found and intercepted knives from people in Woodpecker Road, New Cross and Chubworthy Street, Deptford.

In Woolwich, as reported on Woolwich Online on Monday, a similar program also led to the interception of a sword and an arrest.

Many of the deaths on London's streets have been attributed to people carrying knives on them.

Some of the weapons so far recovered between Royal Greenwich and Lewisham include the following:
