Unexploded WW2 Bomb Discovered in Lewisham, Ordnance Removed

The discovery of a WW2 bomb in Boone Street, Lewisham early Friday morning prompted the cordon and closure of portions of the street by officers of the metropolitan police.

The Ordnance was later removed and officers worked hard to return the area to normal.

According to Police source, the suspected WW2 device was discovered at a building site on Boone Street, SE13 , Friday 22 April.

The statement said Police had been called at 09:14hrs. Officers and specialist officers, attended the scene.

A cordon of 200 metres was put in place and officers were in contact with the other emergency services, as well as the Lewisham Council. A local school and a number of properties were evacuated.

But following its removal, the road closures that had been put in place were removed.

Chief Superintendent Kate Halpin, Lewisham Borough Commander, said: “I’d like to thank the public for their co-operation throughout this incident.”
